El Salvador holds the record for the largest pupusa, as recorded in the Guinness World Records. The first one was made in January 2007 in San Salvador, with a diameter of three meters and fifteen centimeters. It used 200 pounds of dough, 40 pounds of cheese, and 40 pounds of chicharrón. The pupusa was crafted by 40 people and fed another fifteen hundred.
The second record for the largest pupusa is held by the city of Olocuilta, with a pupusa measuring 4.5 meters. On this occasion, Guinness World Records delegates were not present, but it still counted for that purpose. The pupusa was prepared by various individuals from the pupusódromo of Olocuilta.

On November 12, 2016, the second Sunday of that month, the largest pupusa in the history of El Salvador and the world was created with a diameter of 5.5 meters. The activity took place in the municipality of Antiguo Cuscatlán, and the preparation of this giant pupusa was led by chef Carlos Vásquez.
